Montréal – Devan, my first lesbian interview and an awesome one! Devan is an artist and had just moved to Montréal during the summer after a year-long mission as a language educator in Baie-Comeau, a small town in the north of the province of Québec. There she encountered zero gay bars and like three gay people but she loved her job. She led a class discussion on homosexuality and homophobia, and the kids (14 to 18) asked her if she was gay, she thought she couldn’t pretend she wasn’t after this and came out and it went great, some of the kids came and talked to her. Now that she’s here she loves how super queer Montréal is and how she always seems to see lesbian couples making ou in the metro. She’s also working on a great stand-up routine about all her awkward tinder experiences.
